Thetis Island
is a very peaceful and quiet Island with little commercial development.
The Island is approximately 10.5 square kilometers (4.1 square miles)
and has a population of about 400, which increases in the summer
months. Easily accessed by B.C. Ferry service (frequent-20 minute
trip) from Chemainus (population about 4000) on Vancouver Island
or by Airplane (float) service from Vancouver and Victoria, boat
(private or water taxi). Located approximately 56 kilometres (35
miles) from Vancouver and 74 kilometres (46 miles) from Victoria.
The residential island is mainly forested, with some farms and about
16 kilometers (10 miles) of roads. There is a community center,
volunteer fire department and elementary school. There are two excellent
protected marinas in Telegraph Harbour of which one has a pub/restaurant,
Post office and small store. The Island has no public beach accesses

The area is
known as the 'banana belt' of the Gulf Islands of British Columbia
and is noted for warm swimming, fishing, shellfish, boating, and
a great variety of marine and wild life.
